Ticket's won't go on sale for another few weeks — longer if you're not a member — but the folks at SFJAZZ are giving us a hint of what's to come in this fall's 27th annual San Francisco Jazz Festival.
The annual fall festival series kicks off October 10 and continues through November 21 at various locations around San Francisco, undoubtely including Masonic Auditorium, Herbst Theatre, Davies Symphony Hall and other landmark San Francisco venues.
We know that Oakland saxophonist John Handy will be receiving this year's Jazz Beacon Award for a lifetime of music. And, from a glance at the SFJAZZ website, we can also tell you who else will be appearing this year, in no particular order:
Poncho Sanchez, Mark Murphy, Eric Reed, Jake Shimabukuro, Ravi and Anoush Shankar, Nicholas Payton and Don Byron, Pat Martino and Larry Goldings, the John Abercrombie Quartet, Ornette Coleman, Esperanza Spalding, Savion Glover, Cindy Blackman's Another Lifetime, Bela Fleck with Zakir Hussain and Edgar Meyer, Gal Costa, the Marc Cary Focus Trio, Milton Nascimiento, Keb' Mo', Yasmin Levy, the Omar Sosa Quartet and the John Santos Sextet, the Eddie Daniels Quartet with Jim Rothermel, Henry Butler, and the Gonzalo Rubalcaba Quintet.
