Jazz pianist Mike Greensill checks in with news of his upcoming appearances (with the wonderful Wesla Whitfield, of course) at the Rrazz Room in San Francisco...
"During our Rrazz Room run we're doing a benefit for the legendary DJ John Rogers," says Greensill of the legendary jazz DJ who's in need of a few bucks to offset medical expenses he incurred after surgery earlier this year (there was a previous benefit for Rogers back in April). "He was such an integral part of both Wesla and my careers that we are donating the proceeds of our 5 pm matinee show on Sunday May 31 at the Rrazz Room to John. Joining us for this very special evening (and also donating their time) will be the wonderful vocalist Bobbe Norris with Larry Dunlap on piano, the seductive Madeline Eastman, and the soulful Denise Perrier, in a tribute to John's old Sunday morning vocal show on KJAZ."
Sounds like a cool gig, Mike.
"This is Wesla's only San Francisco appearance this year," he notes, "and her first at The Razz! So there's every reason to come and celebrate the Great American Songbook with us. Wesla's putting together a new show, and we're currently rehearsing like mad... the piano is strewn with sheet music... scraps of scribblings on manuscript everywhere, and I'm even foregoing golf this week and staying out of the bars!"
Ah, the sacrifices we make in the name of jazz!
The duo will be performing "As Time Goes By" (along with John Wiitala, bass and Vince Lateano, drums) Tuesday thru Saturday at 8 pm and Sundays at 5 pm, from May 26 thru June 7. For more info, visit the Rrazz Room website.
