Looks like there won't be a JVC Jazz Festival in New York this year, reported Jacob Teichroew in his jazz blog on About.com last month... which also means it's unlikely that JVC's annual road show will be making a summer stop at the Sleep Train Pavilion in Concord.
Apparently, said Jacob, JVC, the Japanese electronics company has pulled its sponsorship of jazz events, citing the weakened economy as the reason for its decision.
The withdrawal marks the end of a relationship between the electronics giant and New York impresario George Wein that began in 1984. Only a few years ago, the JVC festival was a regular feature at the Concord pavilion.
"Wein has decided to produce concerts on his own," added Jacob, noting that singers Jamie Cullum and Diana Krall will instead be performing at Carnegie Hall in late June.
Wein will also continue producing this year's Newport Jazz Festival under his own name.
