Jazz singer extraordinare and San Francisco native Bobbe Norris celebrates her 70th birthday on Friday, July 3, with a concert appearance in Palo Alto as part of this year's Stanford Jazz Festival.
Norris originally pursued a successful singing career in New York, where she worked the major clubs and concert halls, recorded for Columbia Records, and appeared on television as a featured performer on the "Ed Sullivan" and "Tonight" shows (among others). But her skyrocketing career was strictly controlled, motivating her to step back and retire from the music until meeting pianist Larry Dunlap, who encouraged her to get back into singing.
Joining the every-youthful Norris in Friday night's concert will be Dunlap, her husband, musical co-conspirator, and a versatile pianist who's played with — and served as an arranger and musical director for — countless world-class artists, including Cleo Laine, Joe Williams, and Gerry Mulligan.
Also on hand for Friday's concert appearance are bassist Dan Feiszli and drummer Jason Lewis.
Happy Birthday, Bobbe... and many, many more!
