San Francisco Friends of Chamber Music — in collaboration with the de Young Museum, Intersection for the Arts, and Other Minds — presents the fourth annual Chamber Music Day, a day-long concert series performed by the Bay Area's top music ensembles.

"Chamber Music Day: Live + Free" will take place Sunday, October 16 from 10 am until 5.30 pm at the de Young Museum in San Francisco's Golden Gate Park. Admission is free.

Co-curated by Renee Baldocchi (the de Young Museum), Katherine Bukstein (San Francisco Friends of Chamber Music), Kevin Chen (Intersection for the Arts) and Adam Fong (Other Minds), "Chamber Music Day" offers a rich assortment of musical styles — 33 of the Bay Area's leading classical, world, and jazz ensembles will perform on eight different stages — in the elegant setting of the de Young Museum galleries.

Featured artists include the DU UY Quintet, the Erik Jekabson String-tet, Lisa Mezzacappa's Bait & Switch, The Nice Guy Trio + Strings, Prasant Radhakrishnan's VidyA, the Rob Reich Trio, RW3 (Kasey Knudsen), the Marcus Shelby Trio, the Claudia Villela Quartet and the Sarah Wilson Ensemble.

Salon 97 will lead several interviews and discussions about chamber music in a tent located on the museum grounds.

Plus, hands-on art and music activities for children and youth by Thingamajigs DIY Musical Instrument, Magik*Magik Musical Petting Zoo, and Outsound GearExplore will inspire young minds to play music of their own making.

Chamber Music Day was launched in 2008 by the San Francisco Friends of Chamber Music (SFFCM) to make art accessible to all, and showcase the Bay Area’s wide spectrum of music, from classical music to the latest avant-garde, for any instrumentation.

SFFCM director Dominique Pelletey modeled the day-long event after contemporary music festivals in the Netherlands and France, where audiences savored their favorite musical style and are encouraged to discover something new.

The concept has been a hit with Bay Area audiences. Due to its fast-growing popularity, Chamber Music Day relocated from Temple Emmanuel in its inaugural year to the San Francisco Conservatory to its current locale at the de Young Museum.
