What's
New? We're Glad You Asked...
As
part of our 10th anniversary whoop-de-doo, JazzWest is
launching several new features all around the website, from
minor design tweaks to entirely new features.
What
makes JazzWest different from most other Bay Area websites
covering jazz?
Well,
we're the only site that truly features "all things
jazz," from our news coverage
of the local jazz scene to our Musicians
Directory with more than 300 Bay Area jazz musicians... with
lots in between.
The
JazzWest Calendar: 3000+ Live Jazz Events!
Our
Live
Jazz Calendar is one of the most comprehensive sources for live
jazz in the Bay Area. The major media websites are all getting
automated feeds for their calendars; ours is compiled by hand.
And it shows: we ran a search on "jazz" shows at
SFGate, and came up with about 120 gigs listed for the entire
month of May 2009. By comparison, we had more than 1,300
listings.
That's a lot of jazz, folks.
Oh,
and we've just added another 25 local
venues for live jazz around the Bay Area!

your own gigs to the JazzWest Calendar!
The
JazzWest Blogs: Blog Rolls, Comments and More
We've
made some changes to the JazzWest
blogs, including the debut
of a new blog from jazz singer and writer Masha Campagne,
who'll be writing monthly
posts on some of the best venues for jazz around the Bay
Area, beginning with Senzala Restaurant in Sunnyvale.
There's
also a new sidebar with a list of recent blogs by each of our
writers. The most recent five posts are shown, and all the
rest are just a click away. You'll see when you visit
our blogs...
And
yes, we've finally added comments to our blogs! When you visit
any blog page, you'll see this new toolbar:

Click on the Comments link, and you'll jump down to the bottom
of the page, where all the comments live. View all comments on
this blog, or add your own comment. And there's no tedious
registration or log-in stuff... as long as everybody plays
nice.
Jazz
Photos in the Photography Showcase
Since
we launched a new Photo
Gallery spotlighting photos from Bay Area
jazz shows, we've been delightfully inundated with some of the
best jazz photography we've ever had the pleasure to see:
almost 400 images of local and national jazz musicians. Some
of the Bay Area's top photographers — Ronald Davis, Stuart
Brinin, Peter Buranzon, Kim Sayre, Scott Chernis, and many
more — are showing their work in the Showcase. If you love
jazz photography, this is a
must-see!
Social
Networking Is Just a Click Away
We're
just finishing up the addition of a "social
networking" toolbar on most of our news and feature
articles, photo galleries, blogs, and Calendar listings.

We've got all the social networking tools and services at your
fingertips: Digg, Twitter, Delicious, Stumbleupon, Buzz Up!,
and more; easy ways to add JazzWest to your Facebook, Linked
In or MySpace page; and quick links for your Blogger, TypePad,
WordPress or Technorati blog.
You
can also send messages via e-mail or any instant messaging
tool, bookmark pages you want to revisit, or print an entire
page... all with just a few quick clicks.
Oh,
yeah... don't forget to follow us on Twitter!
A
Few Tweaks Here, A Few Tweaks There...
We've
made a few design changes to the JazzWest home page to give
you a better "at-a-glance" view of:
- The
week's top bets for live jazz around the Bay
- The
latest jazz news and feature articles
- Recent
posts to the JazzWest blogs
- New
jazz concert photos in the Photo Galleries
- Our
Directory Spotlight (showcasing musicians in the
JazzWest Directory)
- Contests
and concert ticket give-aways
What?
Did You Say Concert Ticket Give-Aways?
Yep.
A few years ago, we used to feature monthly ticket give-aways. And to mark our 10th
anniversary (what? you haven't heard?), we thought it high
time to bring back a great tradition!
We'll
be posting a new ticket give-away soon, so stay tuned!
And
thanks for 10 wonderful years!
